AdMob Test Ads: What to Check Before Accepting an Android Integration

A release-oriented AdMob test checklist: choose the right test setup, exercise placements and failures, check mediation, and retain useful acceptance evidence.

Test an advertising integration with the supported test setup, not by clicking ordinary live ads. A useful acceptance check covers the placement lifecycle, failure states and configuration as well as whether an ad appears. Ask for evidence from the same build you are being asked to accept.

Google documents two routes: its demonstration ad units, or your own units with a device configured for testing. Follow the current instructions for the SDK and platform in the app. This guide describes an acceptance workflow rather than supplying reusable production identifiers.

Choose a test method and label the environment

Separate the test setup from production
ApproachUseful checkRelease question
Google demo unitsConfirm the basic placement integration with a known test configurationHave demo identifiers been removed from the production configuration?
Own units on a test deviceExercise the intended units using the supported test-device setupHow will developers keep testing safely after publication?
Mediation setupCheck the participating adapters and providersIs the test configuration verified for each relevant network?

Record the build version, package, device and test method in the evidence. A screenshot without those details is hard to reproduce. Do not post device identifiers, account identifiers or private diagnostics in a public issue when a protected handover is available.

Check each placement as a user flow

Start with a short placement inventory: screen, trigger, format, expected behavior and person responsible for acceptance. A placement should have a reason in the app's user journey. “Show an ad everywhere” is not a useful acceptance specification.

Practical QA cases to discuss with the implementer
CaseWhat to observe
First entryThe screen remains usable while the ad request is pending
Successful loadThe correct placement appears without covering necessary controls
No connectionThe app reports or handles the failure without trapping the user
No ad availableThe core task has a defined outcome when nothing can be shown
Repeated navigationReturning to a screen does not create duplicate layers or broken state
App backgroundingReturning to the app leaves the flow and screen state coherent
Reward flow, if usedThe grant follows the intended completion event and is not duplicated
Small displayContent, consent controls and navigation remain accessible

These are proposed project checks, not a declaration that a placement satisfies every policy. The implementer should also review the applicable format and privacy requirements. Retain the original issue description when a check fails so that a later build can be compared against it.

Do not treat mediation as one switch

Google's test-ad guide notes a separate testing concern for mediated ads: the familiar test label is not a universal indicator across networks. The person integrating mediation needs to verify the supported test setup for the relevant providers.

Ask for the adapter inventory and versions, the networks actually exercised and the results. A successful Google demo ad does not show that every mediated provider is configured or tested. Keep the conclusions limited to what the evidence supports.

Use a release gate rather than a last-minute memory check

  1. Identify the build and confirm the intended test or production configuration.
  2. Verify demo identifiers are not accidentally left in the production setup.
  3. Review how test devices will be used for ongoing developer checks.
  4. Recheck relevant consent, data-disclosure and placement requirements for the actual SDKs.
  5. Record unresolved failures and who may approve the release.
  6. Keep test evidence and release notes together.

A production release should be an authorized decision with a known configuration. Passing a test placement is not a promise of AdMob readiness, advertiser demand or revenue. Use the separate app-readiness checklist for the account and store-linking side.

Ask for a reproducible handover

Request the dependency list, placement inventory, configuration instructions, completed cases and open issues. Define what maintenance includes after delivery: SDK updates, broken integrations and new requirements are different work from the initial setup. The Android handover checklist covers the release materials around that work.

For data disclosures, do not assume the advertising SDK is the only component involved. Map the app's analytics, crash-reporting, login and other services using the SDK inventory worksheet.

Frequently asked questions

Should I test an integration by clicking ordinary live ads?

Use the supported test-ad setup. Google documents demo units and test devices for development checks.

Does one successful test ad verify every mediation provider?

No. Record which providers and adapters were actually configured and tested, following each relevant test setup.

Do successful test ads guarantee production revenue?

No. Test results describe an integration in a test environment. Readiness, policy state, usage and demand are separate considerations.
